Mind Czar Sports Performance
Meet Dr. Czar
Dr. Czar began his wrestling career by representing the United States in both Europe and Asia. He has experience in Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Collegiate styles of wrestling. He has trained at some the finest national training camps in Chicago, West Point Military Academy and Colorado Springs. He has earned his Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's in Sport Psychology and PD. in General Psychology. His Doctoral Dissertation "The Experiences of Competitive Match Preparation Among Elite Wrestlers; A Grounded Theory Study" examined the process of mental preparation and set the foundation for his theory "Build Your Cage!". This theory is based on the structure of the training environment and how to reduce distractions, build confidence and hone one's focus. He has a passion for the sport of wrestling and a desire to see success in the sport while developing life skills. He brings a three-pronged perspective of a competitor, coach and researcher to the mat. He will work individually 1:1 and collectively with the team.
What is Practice?
What is Practice?
A question each wrestler needs to be asked and every wresler needs to ask themselves...all the time. Practice is not just a means of getting your "reps" in. Practice is where champions are made. This is the time to not only have, but develop, focus, style, technique and attack strategies. How are you going to make yourself a better wrestler, today, tomorrow and every day until season end? We not only have to master our moves, we need to hone and perfect them to the point they become our nature. These are our keys to the kingdom. We need to build chains...attack chains.
How do we do this? Have a plan. Develop a strategy in which we can incorporate what we practice into who we are as a wrestler.
Focus: Practice is a great opportunity to hone our focus. Focus is a key component to building our cage. When we are focused ahead, at the task at hand (in wrestling, our opponent and the next match) nothing else matters. We become predators and we maintain that focus until we eat. Watch the cheetah video below.
How many times did you see the cheetah look away? How many times was he distracted? When did he finally break his gaze?...after he ate!
Practice, practicing
Set goals... goals for every practice and maintain that focus until what you are working on is second nature. When you are not physically engaged, use your mind and visualize that process, move, chain over and over again. This builds your neral pathways and builds focus. When you are physically engaged, use your awareness the remember what is felt like, positioning, pressure, movement, momentum... as much as you can... and remember how it felt/feels. Repeat. This is why we practice.
More coming on how to "Build Your Cage!".
