When
Beginning May 7, 2025, you will no longer be able to use a non-REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state ID to board a domestic flight. If you do not upgrade your license or state ID, you can use a passport or one of these other acceptable forms of identification to fly.

How Much
Normal driver’s license and ID card fees apply. There is no additional cost for a REAL ID-compliant license or ID card when a person renews normally. A correction fee may be charged when people apply for a compliant license outside of their normal renewal cycle.
Those who apply for a REAL ID at any other time must pay an extra $9 fee for a license or $10 for an identification card. The fee is $45 for an enhanced license and $30 for an enhanced identification card.
