Coach MacKenzie’s vision and ability to recruit wrestlers who buy into the team’s mission statement is his strength. He builds positive relationships with his athletes and serves as an excellent mentor. Athletes instantly recognize his passion, positive energy and knowledge of the sport and enjoy his calm and confident leadership style. As a result, Coach Mackenzie attracts wrestlers who are Future Driven in their career, grateful for a second chance to wrestle, and are humble enough to be coached.
Grant MacKenzie teaches physical education at Allen Park Middle School and has 18 years of coaching experience at multiple levels.
Coach MacKenzie grew up in Dearborn, Michigan where he graduated from Edsel Ford High School and began his wrestling career in 9th grade. He graduated from Olivet College and earned a master’s from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in Public Administration. In the off-season, he co-coaches Team Fury, an All-Star wrestling club based in Livonia, Michigan for students in grades 7-12.
Additionally, MacKenzie is a life-long grappler who is a purple belt at Detroit Jiu-Jitsu under Danny Agemy.
MacKenzie and wife, Julie, reside in Dearborn with their daughter, Lilianna.
